When you see a finished handmade gift, you see the end of the story.
You see the crocheted plushie ready for a hug, the ornament ready for the Christmas tree, the tooth pillow waiting for that first lost tooth, or the potholder gift set ready to be wrapped and given to someone special.
What you don't see are all the little steps that came before it.
It Usually Starts With Something Pretty Ordinary
A skein of yarn.
A piece of fabric.
A blank ornament.
A plain potholder.
On their own, they don't look like much. But give us a little time—and maybe a slightly crazy idea—and they start becoming something completely different.
That's one of our favorite things about handmade.
We get to take something ordinary and turn it into a Misfit.
There's a Person Behind Every One
There isn't a machine somewhere turning out thousands of identical Misfits.
There are hands cutting fabric, threading needles, counting crochet stitches, painting tiny details, pressing designs, sewing seams and occasionally realizing something needs to be taken apart and done again. 😂
Some creations come together quickly. Others take hours.
And because they're handmade, they aren't always absolutely identical. We think that's part of what makes them special.

Sometimes the Story Is in the Making
We've been sharing more behind-the-scenes looks lately because we realized something:
The finished product is only half the fun.
Watching a simple potholder become a finished gift or seeing yarn slowly turn into a new crochet Misfit lets you see something you normally don't get to see when you're shopping—the work behind the gift.
There is a beginning, a middle and an end.
And at the end, hopefully, there's somebody smiling.
Sometimes the Story Doesn't Really Begin Until It Leaves Us
That's the other side of handmade that we love.
An ornament celebrating a couple's first home may eventually hang on their Christmas tree for years.
A tooth pillow might become part of a child's first visit from the Tooth Fairy.
A baby gift might get packed away someday with other things a parent couldn't quite bring themselves to part with.
A crocheted Misfit might become somebody's favorite.
We make the item.
You give it the story.
And that's something a price tag can never really measure.
